Transitioning from homelessness, active-duty, or from incarceration can be distressing for those on the streets, in shelters, and transitional programs who are seeking sustainable housing and personal stability.
Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) programs provide outreach and case management services and assist veterans to obtain VA benefits and other public benefits. SSVF services include housing counseling, legal services, benefits advocacy, rental and utility assistance, childcare support, moving and storage costs, and transportation.
The VA Grant and Per Diem Program (GPD) was authorized by Congress in 1992 under Public Law 102-590 and gave Veterans Affairs (VA) authority to provide financial support ($68.64 / day / veteran) to nonprofit organizations, or state and local governments, to establish programs to assist the homeless veteran population.
